what happened to my old (female UI)?

The UI for my Shuffle (4th Generation) recently changed (during an update?) from a female voice to a male voice and stopped working correctly. The UI didn't recognize playlist names (just Playlist 1, Playlist 2, etc.), and, when I was browsing through the playlists and stopped on one (just to figure out what it was), when I went back to browsing them, it started over from Playlist 1. I tried restoring the iPod, but the same UI was there, and now everything is just in one big playlist, though the playlists show up in iTunes. Is there a way to get the old UI back?
